Why I Run

Daily

Running is my go-to form of exercise.

I run because it helps me think more, clearer and better. I run because it takes my mind off things, things I will be fixated on if I wasn’t keeping myself busy. I run because I feel free and relaxed whenever I do. I run because it makes me feel alone yet not lonely, and it’s one of the best feelings in the world.

In late August I started to run again after more than six months of hiatus. I wanted to have more energy and increase my stamina. I’m out of breath all the time, sluggish and useless after a night out. So I started running again regularly. It was difficult at first but after a week of runs, I felt so much better. Bonus, I’ve lost ten (10) kgs since.

Nike Run

Nike started hosting its 10k challenge, We Run DXB, last year. It took place around Burj Khalifa (the tallest building in the world) in Downtown Dubai. When I found out that they’re doing it for the second time this year, I thought it will be a good motivation for me to keep running. I’ve never run 10k in my life.

I crushed my goal and record last November 13. It was awesome! S.O’s support and the Nike+ Running App helped a lot!

Keep Running

This January, I’m running my second official 10k. I will be running 10k at the Standard Chartered Dubai Marathon 2016. I’m dedicating my run and raising money for Salam ya Seghar. Donating is quick and easy, simply go to, Just Giving 30K and press the donate button. All proceeds will go to the Big Heart. So far, since launching the fundraising campaign two weeks ago, I managed to raise 500 dirhams (136 USD)!

The Big Heart started as a campaign that supports Syrian children refugees who escape Syria in 2013. In May this year, it was turned into a foundation by H.H. Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi who’s the UNHCR Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children.
